Fat Calves

April 3, 2010

Some days, I look back & regretted joining badminton when I was in secondary 1. That simply explain why I’ve got fat calves & thunder thighs.  But I can’t deny the fact that badminton had brought alot of joy & was actually a major part of my life during my secondary school days.

I played badminton almost everyday with my close bunch of friends. My parents were really strict back then and I had to get home as soon as school ended. Haha, I remember how I sneaked out of the house (pleading my sis to tell my parents that I’m sleeping if they were to call back home & check) with my racquet and ran to meet my friends, just to join them for badminton. I started out as a noob, not even knowing how to serve. I dont know why, but I was so determined to play well that I went home and ”played” with the walls in my room and ta-da! I learnt how to serve within one day.

Together with my friends, I think we’d probably played in every community centre/ stadium in North. I’ve won matches and had lost more matches, but it had never really mattered to me. And it’s funny how  I could play badminton for 5 straight hours but I can’t jog for even an hour.

Our secondary school hall was my second home. I would rush home every weds and thurs, drop my bag, grab my racquet, and head back to school for badminton. I’m well known for coming in with my slippers, playing barefooted for hours and ending up sitting by the basin to wash my dirty feet. Many times I would end up with huge blisters too , but I was happy. Really really happy.

The racquet that went through thick & thin with me was really special too. ‘Cause I couldn’t afford to buy one then, a very good friend of mine gave me one. Not a brand new one, but I remember being so elated ’cause I could finally call a racquet my own.

Ahhhhh

I miss how I actually threw everything at the back of my head, ran, and aimed for that one shuttlecock.
I miss how I fought for every match & competition.
It’s been a long time since I had that kind of determination.
